She waited there
Waited for a word
a sign, a sigh of wind
He’d spoken on the
eternity of true love
on feeling her voice
over a thousand miles
and her touch, always
then left, disappeared, fell to hush
And she waited-

Seasons changed
dry winds to cool rain
to driving snow, and
the world fell down
around her
But she waited-

People came and went
spoke to her of
bravery and foolishness and
It’s time to move on
Life is here, now
not with someone
who forgets love
Still she waited-

Spring burgeoned
and new life appeared
clouds scudded
turquoise skies and
fireflies lit warming
nights to the song of tree frogs
And she waited-

She waits
for a whisper that
the love carved deep
in hidden bone
Lives, breaths, beats
still. She waits-

I wait.
